Solomon Kane clips online

Michael J Bassett’s epic film adaptation of Robert E Howard’s classic swords and sorcery tale hits UK screens on 5 February, 2010.

Which is probably why it’s being given a bit of a push like the clips we’ve found below.

Yes, various Solomon snippets have been unveiled over at the film’s official website. There’s a hi-def version of the trailer that set tongues wagging when it premiered at this year’s Comic Con, as well as a few nifty behind the scenes peeks at the film’s many fights.

It’s all obviously heavily influenced by everything from Lord of the Rings to Constantine, but Kane still looks like one to watch come February.

We don’t even mind that James Purefoy as the titular Solomon looks like the long lost brother of Hugh Jackman’s Van Helsing (crossover anyone?)

See what you think;

Buzz from early screenings has been erring on the positive, so we quite fancy a bit of medieval madness to balance out the heavyweight drama of the early, Oscar-baiting films of 2010.

Kane for Best Picture? Now that would make things interesting come March…

Do we need another hero? Tell us if you need saving below…

Captain America to shoot in June

It’s been all quiet on the First Avenger: Captain America front since Joe Johnston was announced as the film’s director earlier in ‘09.

Well, it’s still sort of hushed out there (those movie bods are probably still finishing up the turkey curry), but Johnston has finally confirmed the shooting date for his Marvel superhero flick.

While chatting with Fangoria magazine about his upcoming Wolf Man, the director revealed that he’s set to lense the flick in June 2010. Which is earlier than expected considering how long it usually takes to get these big projects off the ground.

In other words, yes, this really is actually happening. And we couldn’t be more excited.

But who’ll be donning the spandex and wings as the titular justice server?

Tell us your dream casting choices below…

Cop Out and Crazy trailers go cyber

Yes, 2009 is gasping its dying breath, and another year waits in the wings to take its place.

But what can we expect from 2010? Well, the studios aren’t resting on their laurels when it comes to trailer teasing us to death.

Both Warner Bros and Freestyle Films have released trailers for two of their big post-noughties projects – Kevin Smith’s retitled Cop Out and Tim Allen’s cinematic directorial debut Crazy on the Outside.

First up, Cop Out stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as those ‘couple of dicks’. Personally, we prefered the original title. Still, we’re enjoying Mr Smith’s blatant two fingers up at the censors who made him change it (yes, these are the same censors who passed Zack and Miri Make a Porno… Double standards?).

“There’s the right way to do police work… then there’s the way you two do it,” the cop buddies are told by their superior. Hmm, yeah.

A little Last Boy Scout in flavour, this cop-comedy-thriller seems to blur genres effectively as the two officers attempt to do right while causing chaos in the process.

Trailer language police aside (“I’m going to take care of that son-of-a-bee myself” declares one crime-struck woman in what we are sure is a blatant case of curse-curbing), this looks funny if not massively ground-breaking.

Even Sean William Scott seems to be bringing out the ha-ha’s (granted in a typecast motormouth role) despite recent misfires.

Meanwhile, Smith himself talked about the title hoo-ha to Entertainment Weekly here. “I liked [the new title] because it sounds like exactly what we set out to be: an ’80s buddy cop movie, without sounding like Loaded Weapon, or some such shit,” the Bearded One said.

Fingers crossed for Kev.

Elsewhere, Tim Allen’s directorial debut boasts a return to comedy for Sigourney Weaver after her tango with Avatar, as Allen’s character is released from prison, and has to conceal his jail time from his family…

Despite near-zero buzz, Crazy looks like a solid laugher, with Kelsey Grammer, Ray Liotta and Jeanne Tripplehorn all in on the joke.

And, really, any film that reunites these much maligned comedians deserves at least a cursory glance. Could be a sleeper hit.

Comedy or crud? Let it all hang out below…

Five contenders for Green Lantern’s squeeze

Take this one with a pinch of salt, dear readers.

Our friends over at Latino Review have been doing a bit of snooping around the production of Ryan Reynolds’ superhero flick Green Lantern. And they think they’ve come up with the five female candidates for the Lantern’s high-flying girlfriend, Carol Ferris.

Described in the soon-shooting film script as a demure 27-year-old, the daughter of aerospace entrepreneur Carl Ferris works for Ferris Air, is smart enough to have bagged an MBA, and has been lusting after Hal Jordan (green pants himself) for as long as memory serves.

So who fits the bill? LR’s sources pulled five names out of the Hollywood hat: Eva Green, Keri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Garner.

Strictly A-list, then. No Rachel McAdams (long linked to the Batman franchise, but no dice so far), and the inclusion of Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively surprises.

Though her profile as The CW’s crowning jewel is quickly on the rise, she’s hardly on par with heavyweights Green and Garner. Even Kruger ranks higher, having enjoyed success with this year’s Inglourious Basterds.

So which lucky lady will be smooching with Ryan Reynolds come January? If we were gamblers, we’d say Keri Russell (comic book angles, always plays the girlfriend, generally nice to work with). But we’re not so we’ll leave the guessing up to you…

Who do you want for Green Lantern’s lovebug? Comments, as ever, below…
