Roland Emmerich will not be orchestrating the end of the world in his next flick (probably).
The man behind Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012 has bagged Vanessa Redgrave, David Thewlis and Rhys Ifans for Anonymous.
The film will explore the idea that Shakespeare didn’t actually write his plays after all, and that it is in fact the Earl of Oxford who deserves the credit in English classes.
Emmerich says: “We have Vanessa Redgrave as Queen Elizabeth; David Thewlis as William Cecil, old and young; and Rhys Ifans as The Earl Of Oxford. It’s a true English cast and I’m really proud of it."
Emmerich had also been developing an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s epic sci-fi series Foundation, but it looks like this’ll be going on the back burner in favour of Anonymous.

Will there be scope in this story for Emmerich to blow stuff up? Vent your thoughts below…

Zach Galifianakis, still hot off the back of 2009 smash The Hangover, has added another project to his busy slate.
Miracle Workers will see Galifianakis as a guy who, along with his partner, performs fake exorcisms. He comes a cropper when encountering a real demon, though.

Sounds a lot like a contemporary re-jig of The Brothers Grimm to us. And Zach’s going to be going head-to-head with Anthony Hopkins in the exorcism stakes.
Galifianakis will probably be seen in Dinner for Schmucks, Due Date and The Hangover 2 before Miracle Workers hits the screen.

A new trailer for Platinum Dunes’ A Nightmare on Elm Street has hit the net.
MySpace has the latest trailer, which gives a couple of fresh glimpses at Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, the former child-murderer who stalks the dreams of Elm Street’s teens.
This re-telling of the 80’s horror classic seems to be going with a less humorous, more plain scary, Freddy.
While nobody was actually jumping for joy when this remake was announced, it does look like it could be one of the better recent horror-remake efforts, and if anyone can make us fear falling asleep again, it’s Jackie Earle Haley.
Check out the latest trailer:

Director Dean Parisot has been drafted in to direct a new comedy called Central Intelligence.
Centered around an accountant who reconnects with an old friend on Facebook, the film takes a fun twist when the unfortunate accountant finds himself pulled into a plot involving international espionage.
Ed Helms (below, left) is set to take the lead role in what sounds like an entertaining comedy of errors. It would be his first leading role after providing able support in the US The Office, The Hangover and Confessions Of A Shopaholic.

Parisot is most famous for directing the fun and geeky Galaxy Quest. He’s also involved in Scared Guys, a crime comedy about two agoraphobic men who attempt to report a crime.
The director’s last big screen outing was the critically panned Fun With Dick And Jane, which was nevertheless a massive box office hit, raking in $110m Stateside.
Intelligent move for Parisot? Let’s discuss…

John Landis’ return to comedy-horror is looking set to be one of the highlights of 2010.
Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis star as the titular 19th-Century corpse-sellers. They’re joined by a cracking cast including Tom Wilkinson, Christopher Lee and John Cleese.
Pegg’s fellow-Spaced alumni Jessica Hynes and Bill Bailey are also involved.
The first pics of Pegg and Serkis have hit the web, and the guys are certainly looking the part;

The film’s based on the true story of William Burke and William Hare. They turned to murder to take advantage of doctors’ demands for corpses to experiment on.
We’re expecting some big laughs to go with the grue, though.
