New Scott Pilgrim trailer online

The second trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World has been unveiled online.

Revealed via the Scott Pilgrim facebook page after the movie achieved 100,000 ‘likes’, this new look at the comic book adaptation from Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright is a whip-cracking whip-crack of total awesomeness.

Showing off about 100% more than the first trailer, it boasts a slew of arm-chewingly brilliant fights, unveils Kieran Culkin as Pilgrim’s belligerent gay roommate, and gives us even more indication of the nutty visual style that Wright has gone for.

If you’re not clued up on Pilgrim yet (read the books, trust us), it follows the titular Scott, who meets the lovely Ramona Flowers and has to fight her seven evil ex-boyfriends if he wants to date her.

Michael Cera is in the lead, while Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Ramona. The rest of the cast includes Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Allison Pill, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman and Aubrey Plaza.

Check out the new trailer below…

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World blasts onto our screens on 13 August.

Picked yourself up off the floor? Chomping at the bit like we are? Give us your thoughts…

Shrek 4 is better than Sex

Shrek retained his ogre crown at the box office this weekend, with Shrek Forever After fending off opening numbers Sex And The City 2 and Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time to hold onto the number one spot.

It was a disappointment for the SATC gals, whose previous outing in movieland opened to the trill of $57m. The ladies had to settle for second place this time, taking $32m in comparison to Shrek’s $43m - no doubt thanks to widespread accusations of the fab foursome’s latest featuring some off-colour remarks about life in Abu Dhabi.

Prince Of Persia debuted in third place with $30m, while Iron Man 2 slipped from second place to fourth with $16m (and an impressive total haul of $274m). Robin Hood rounded out the top five with a feeble-ish $10m.

Amanda Seyfried’s Letters To Juliet went from fourth to sixth with almost half that at $5.9m, while Just Wright took a teeny $2.2m.

Date Night again barely budged in the box office line up, moving from seventh to eighth and a declining return of $1.7m (and a total of $9.3m), while last week’s massive flop McGruber took ninth place with $1.4m.

How To Train Your Dragon remained in the top ten – but only just – with a gross of just over $1m, more than likely signalling its final week in the charts. Not bad considering it was released way back in March.

Green Lantern movie plot revealed

Green Lantern’s official plot has been unveiled by Warner Bros.

Having chatted with those shadowy investor blokes who put their bajillions into promising movie projects (and then have their names chucked onto the end credits), Warner Bros discussed their ideas for movie version of The Flash, Wonder Woman and… Green Lantern.

They then revealed the full plot synopsis for the movie, giving away in great detail the entire story and curtailing much of the internet speculation.

Take a look below if you dare…

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers.

But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity.

With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax… he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Green Lantern is currently shooting with Martin Campbell at the helm and Ryan Reynolds as the titular hero. It will be released in June 2011.

Steve Carell to play singer Dennis Lambert?

Steve Carell is being courted for the lead role in a remake of Dennis Lambert biopic Of All The Things.

The singer became famous after forging hits ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’, ‘We Built This City’ and ‘Nightshift’, and is the subject of a 2008 documentary also entitled Of All The Things (below), which followed him during a five-date comeback tour at the age of 60.

Warner Bros are now planning on creating a fictional recreation of that tour, and they want Carell to play Lambert.

No word yet how they plan on adapting it into a narrative movie, but we imagine it will either be a comedy vehicle for Carell, or a chance for him to ‘go straight’ and do a little dramatical emoting (a la Jim Carrey).

Fancy Carell going straight with a drama? Or should he stick with comedy?

Shawn Levy plans Fight Before Christmas

Date Night director Shawn Levy has signed on to direct new comedy The Fight Before Christmas for 20th Century Fox.

Despite the curse of Christmas movies (Christmas With The Cranks, Four Christmases, Fred Claus among many others all turning into total turkeys), Levy must be confident in the pitch made by Due Date’s writer Adam Sztykiel.

Except he’s not letting on what that pitch is, with the studio acting like a kid with a giant present, and refusing to reveal anything about it. All we know is that it’s a “family-centred comedy”.

Shawn Levy, Fight Before Christmas

Fox presumably have faith in Levy to deliver, considering his Date Night and Night At The Museum films have turned into successful money-spinners for them.

Meanwhile, Levy is also setting up shop at DreamWorks to direct Real Steel, about a father and son who take their robot to the Bot Boxing Championship.

John Cusack’s Shanghai trailer online

John Cusack’s new espionage thriller Shanghai has finally been given a new trailer, released online today.

Having played ‘ring around the release dates’ with the Weinstein Company last year, the flick is at last getting released over in China, and in the US this September.

Why all the release date drama? Seems Weinstein aren’t entirely sure how to market this WWII team up between Cusack and his 1408 director Mikael Håfström.

Evidently they’ve found a way, this trailer dripping with style even if there are no standout moments that make us guaranteed customers.

It’s being touted as a Casablanca-style international thriller, set in Shanghai the week before the attack on Pearl Harbour.

Cusack is investigating the murder of his friend, which leads him into “a web of conspiracy and lies” that involves Ken Watanabe’s intelligence officer, Chow Yun-Fat’s local gangster and his wife Anna (Gong Li).

So, will it be the new L.A. Confidential? Or B.S. Oriental? Check out the trailer below…

Will you be buying a ticket when this finally gets a UK release?
